Welcome to the autumn 2012 edition of Hotfoot Online
We are currently putting the finishing touches here at ADAD HQ to the upcoming Re:Geneations conference. Delegates at this year’s event will chart and explore new developments in dance of the African Diaspora. Young people, the future leaders of this new movement, lie at the heart of this work as does the need to ensure the legacy of what has gone before is preserved for generations to come. It is with this in mind that we ask some of the of Re:Generations 2012 participants to share their stories with us. Thus Beverley Glean takes us through a brief history of 27 years young, IRIE! dance theatre. And in a new column in which we remember the work of pioneering UK-based dance companies who specialised in presenting dance works rooted in African peoples dance forms, Maxine Brown writes on the work of Delado and the role young people had in its development.
