Throughout every year ADAD employs several interns in different capacities, from trainee producers who co-ordinate events to communications interns who revolutionise our brand image. Their contribution to the smooth running of the organisation is both valuable and appreciated, in return we aim to give them interesting responsibilities and learning opportunities so they make the most of their time with us. In this article Jordana Jordao reflects on her experience.

‘I’m 22 years old and I’m in my third year of my degree on Dance Urban Practice at the University of East London. I am Portuguese. I’ve always been interested in dance and how the arts are seen and portrayed in contemporary western European society. When I started my degree my intention was to become a professional dancer but as I’ve progressed I’ve realised that I would like to learn more about the management and production side of the arts industry.

‘I applied to work with ADAD to get more understanding about administration and management and was given the opportunity to support the production team for Trailblazers Showcase event ‘Exposure’ which was held at The Place in London. My role focussed mainly on marketing the event by distributing a mail out online and printed flyers across different performing arts venues in London. Through doing that I also made some contacts with people who may be interested in establishing working partnerships with ADAD. I also collated information on all the alumni of the Trailblazer scheme to update their profiles in readiness for the event.

‘A day prior to the event I assisted one of the artists to set up an installation in the area where the VIP reception would take place and worked backstage during the event. I learnt a lot about being professionally focused and the importance of time management at an event. Overall I’m really pleased with the experience so far. I feel that every single person I’ve met throughout this journey has assisted my needs and ADAD’s work approaches went far beyond my expectations. I would like to thank everyone for their time and consideration and I would definitely like to work with ADAD again.’
