Welcome to the spring 2014 edition of Hootfoot
When we think of spring we think of renewal, rebirth and new beginnings. This season will see dozens of dance companies premier new works via spring tours. With a focus on legacy, this issue of Hotfoot looks one step back from all this new activity to examine the various sources from which current developments in African diaspora dance stems and ways in which the sector is ensuring the history of African diaspora dance is acknowledged and preserved for future generations. Thus Pawlet Brookes talks about her motivation behind the publication of the book Hidden Movement: Contemporary Voices of Black British Dance. And two thirds of the ADAD delegation to the 26th International Association of Blacks in Dance reflect on their conference experience.
