Welcome to our first edition of Hotfoot Online for 2011.
ADAD celebrated our 15th anniversary in 2010. We commemorated this milestone with a one-off printed collector's edition of Hotfoot Magazine in the Autumn. It you haven't got your copy, email us to purchase one.
This winter 2011 issue of Hotfoot brings us back to our online format and features a look back at a few Dance of the African Diaspora highlight events from 2010.
2010 was one of ADAD’s busiest years to date. It was also a year of real growth, with the launch of ADAD North in the summer and the first ever Re:Generations International Conference, hosted at London Metropolitan University. Re:Generations was presented in partnership with IRIE! dance theatre and State of Emergency Productions - a unique first time partnership between three key Black Dance organisations.
In this issue, we feature a review of Christy Adair’s book Dancing the Black Question: the Phoenix Dance Company Phenomenon. We also have a rich historical perspective on the roots of new urban forms such as Waacking and Vogueing from dancer and researcher Mary Fogarty.
Finally, we'll give you a sneak preview of upcoming events for this year including dates for the Bloom Festival 2011.
If you would like more current news and updates, ADAD has also launched an e-newsletter. To subscribe, email [email protected].
