Hotfoot April 2009
The past few months have been very busy for us at the ADAD offices. In addition to our now established Open Stage platform, we have launched Dance Under Construction at The Drum in Birmingham and are now counting down to the inaugural Bloom Festival of Dance of the African Diaspora at Southbank Centre, London. In this issue of Hotfoot online, we give you a preview of the festival programme.
We also have reviews of Kompany Malahki’s performance Boxin ’from two budding dance writers, Jo-Ann Hamilton and Theah Dix. Emerging Liverpool-based choreographer, Ithalia Forel, shares about the process of making her first collaborative dance piece with former Random Dance performer, Cecile Bushidi, for the LEAP Dance festival presented by Merseyside Dance Initiative in March. We also have a special Zimbabwe focus; I interview former Trailblazer, Bawren Tavaziva, about his company’s recent touring production, Heart of Darkness, including his take on Robert Mugabe, while Xenoula Eleftheriades shares how Xen Arts is using dance to respond to the crisis in Zimbabwe. So read on to find out more good news about dance of the African Diaspora all over the UK. Come see for yourself at the Bloom Festival on June 6th-7th, 2009 at Southbank Centre! Tickets are already on sale. Check the Southbank Centre website.
