ADAD is committed to developing a community that celebrates each others’ triumphs and stands together in times of discouragement. In this issue of Hotfoot, we take a look back at the progress that we have made in 2007 as an organisation and we celebrate the achievements of other individual dance artists, companies and writers who are part of the African Diaspora. We also call on the voices of members of this community to share their hopes and aspirations for 2008.
In the same breath, there is cause for concern. The recent Arts Council funding cuts have affected a number of companies and organisations who are part of our community. Dance of the African Diaspora remains an area in which there needs to be greater support and significant development from outside, but it is also necessary for us to work together and support each others’ initiatives. ADAD is working to make this possible through resources such as our online events calendar and E-group, which provide up to date information on performances, events and opportunities for professional development. We hope that this year you will use these resources as much as possible so that we can grow a strong network.
