The success of the Big Mission festival!

Held in Swindon from May 8-10, 2008, this event brought together a truly diverse range of Black dance artists from across the UK, and also included artists from Canada, the U.S. and France. There were inspiring performances, vibrant (and relevant!) debates and a brilliant environment for networking and developing artistic partnerships. Congratulations to Deborah Badoo and the Big Mission team. ADAD looks forward to the Big Mission International in 2010!

Temitope Ajose-Cutting and Colin Poole have been included in the Place Prize commission for 2008!

“Each of the 20 choreographers receives a commission award of £5,000, and is given studio time and technical support to create their new works over the summer. The works will be premiered at The Place in London in September 2008, and in a further series of performances five finalists will then compete for £10,000 of audience-voted prizes. The judges award the grand prize of £25,000 to The Place Prize Winner 2008 on Saturday 27 September.” (www.theplaceprize.com)

The Harder They Come, the musical based on the Jamaican 70’s cult film is on its way to the Playhouse theatre in the West End this summer!

This musical, choreographed by master Caribbean dance artist, Jacky Guy, has already done successful runs at Theatre Royal, Stratford and the Barbican Theatre in London. See www.thehardertheycomelondon.com for more information.
