Aims and objectifs

ADAD ( Association of Dance of the African Diaspora) is a central resource for the diverse dance forms of the African Diaspora in British contemporary culture. As a catalyst for change ADAD aims to nurture individuals and shift perceptions of this dance sector to reflect with today’s contemporary society. It intends to be instrumental in repositioning African People’s Dance and its forms from the margins to the mainstream.

Aims and objectives

  • To be a central resource that supports and empowers dance artists working within African People’s Dance forms
  • To place APD on the mainstream dance agenda by raising the level of critical debate concerning it’s artistic processes
  • To produce a lively, valuable and informative quarterly newsletter which will serve as a democratic voice for the sector
  • To promote networking opportunities and facilitate new international connections
  • To foster greater understanding and discourse on the diverse genres within the umbrella term of APD
  • To build tactical partnerships regionally and nationally and seek mainstream support from funding bodies, lottery streams and other grant giving agencies § To develop strategic projects which promote APD with existing and mainstream organisations, such as educational establishments, dance companies, community organisations and music agencies
  • To raise the skills and standard of editorial knowledge and writing on dance from the Diaspora
  • To initiate forums and projects for the discussion, demonstration and documentation of choreographic approaches to inform future cultural reference
