Training seminars

London Arts are once again offering a series of seminars in response to the needs of the London dance sector. All seminars are free and will take place at their offices. Media Relations for Artists & Administrators

  • Friday 29 November 2.00pm - 5.00pm Seminar Leader: Amanda Jones, Head of Press & PR, Barbican Centre This seminar will examine the different ways of communicating with the media and how to get the best results if you are not a specialist and when both time and money are limited.
  • Writing Show Reports - Training for Dance Unit Assessors Thursday 5 December 5.30pm - 7.00pm Seminar Leader: Tim Tubbs This seminar will provide training for current London Arts dance assessors or those interested in becoming one. It will give a brief overview of the assessment system and how show reports are used, examine the role of the assessor and provide tips on writing useful and helpful show reports.
  • Insights into Writing Successful Grant Applications Friday 31 January 2.00pm - 5.30pm Seminar Leader: Fern Potter Led by an experienced and accomplished fund-raiser, this seminar will examine various approaches and the key elements to making stronger applications to public funding agencies as well as private trusts and charities.
  • Developing Dance Projects in Education Settings Monday 17 February 2.00pm - 5.00pm Seminar Panel to include: Kiki Gale, Director, East London Dance; Bobbie Gargrave, Advisory Teacher for Physical Education and Dance, LB Barking & Dagenham; and a dance artist (tbc) Designed for dance artists planning education projects, this seminar will examine the practical and aesthetic considerations when working in school settings. We will look at developing content for the projects, how to sell your project to schools, what to expect from schools and teachers and issues around qualifications, legal requirements, monitoring & evaluation.
  • Copyright: Making it Work in Practice Friday, 14 March 2.00pm - 5.00pm Seminar Leader: Madeline Hutchins As a follow up to last season’s seminar on Intellectual Property Rights, this seminar will explore best practice on how to be clear on who owns what copyright in the work, especially when it is developed collaboratively and how to cover this in contracts.
