Originally from Nigeria Vera grew up in the south east of the country then lived in Lagos as a teenager. With a passion for dance, she trained in contemporary and traditional West African dance styles from a young age. Vera studied Performing Arts n Salford and led classes during her time in the UK. Vera has worked as a professional dancer for over ten years, regularly works in community settings and is particularly passionate about working with younger artists. Vera’s Danse Hauz came from this, and was founded in 2005 in Nigeria, fostering original choreography, fresh talents, freestyle fusion and contemporary dance. The company performs Dance in Education workshops, as well as skilled and technical workshops for both amateur and professional dancers. Times: 12.00 - 1.30 Masterclass The Master Class is aimed at professional dancers and those currently studying dance in Further education and will focus on technique and the fusion of traditional and contemporary styles. 2.00 - 3.30 Open class The Open class is for anyone – no matter what level of experience – even if you are trying African dance for the first time. The first part of the classes will explore include movements and indigenous dances from West Africa and the second half will focus on the South African township house moves called "Kwaito".
